What We Do

Rebuilding Together Seattle is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that ensures housing stability for low-income homeowners by providing home safety and accessibility improvements free of charge. We serve homeowners who are elderly, disabled, families with children, and veterans in need. We also serve nonprofit facilities in need of repairs.

We partner with local businesses, community organizations, and individual volunteers to help families stay in their homes, allow seniors to age in place, and preserve the character and culture of our local communities.

Our Origins

Rebuilding Together Seattle is one of over 150 Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country. Rebuilding Together was first known as Christmas in April, and began in Midland, Texas in 1973 when a group of volunteers decided to devote one day a year to repairing dilapidated homes in their community.  The project developed into the nation’s leading volunteer home repair organization.

Rebuilding Together Seattle was launched in 1989 with the support of volunteers from the Junior League of Seattle.  Rebuilding Together Seattle's first projects were completed in the spring of 1990, which initiated the organization's annual Spring Rebuilding Day event.  Also known as National Rebuilding Day, Rebuilding Together affiliates nationwide restore over 3,000 homes and nonprofit facilities across the country on the last Saturday in April every year.

What Makes Us Different

We are the only nonprofit in the greater Seattle area that provides home repairs completely free of charge. We are unique in that we focus on providing critical repairs to existing homes as opposed to building new structures. Through this work, we are able to maintain the culture of a community and ensure that its long-term members are able to age in place.

Our Impact

Since 1989, Rebuilding Together Seattle has restored over 1,700 homes and nonprofit facilities in the greater Seattle area, impacting countless lives in our community and promoting our vision of a safe and healthy home for every person. Today, Rebuilding Together Seattle has three thriving home repair programs: Spring Rebuilding Day, Team Build, and Safe at Home. This past year, Rebuilding Together Seattle was able to provide 200 families with the repairs they needed to stay safe and warm in their homes. This huge accomplishment could only have been made possible with the help of our generous sponsors, donors, and volunteers. We look forward to the future as we continue to expand, revitalizing our communities by providing home safety, health, and accessibility improvements to those who need them most.
